We had a great turnout at the Farmington Public Library for "Balloon Bombs over Farmington." University of Detroit/Mercy History professor and author Dr. Greg Sumner told the story of the Empire of Japan's release of balloon bombs from 1944-45. Sent up into the atmosphere, the balloon were carried by air currents. Two landed in Michigan--one at Eight Mile and Gill Road in Farmington.
Dick Cook, who was just one years-old when the balloon landed in his familie's garden, was there to share the story of the extraordinary event.
Dr. Greg Sumner describes the Fugu Bombs which were launched from Japan.
Dick Cook shares his family's story of discovering the balloon bomb, which landed on their property.
